"Erna Rosenstein, Jonasz Stern and Artur Nacht-Samborski belonged to a small group of Jewish artists who actually lived through the war.

For a Jew, the chance to survive in the General Government under Nazi German occupation was slight. Those who saved their lives had either left Poland before September 1939, or, which was extremely rare, had somehow managed to cross the border after the war had already begun. Among the survivors were also those Jews who lived in hiding, protected by Poles, as well as those who dared to "officially" live on the Aryan side in disguise, pretending to be Poles and using fake ID documents.
